Heraklion or Heraklio is the largest city and capital of the island of Crete. It is also the fourth largest city in Greece. Other names receiving the city are Herakleion, Iraklion or Candia.
The name Heraklion which was received throughout the Greek island of Crete when it was occupied by the Venetians was called Candia . At the centre of the city combines Byzantine churches, Venetian palaces, fountains Turkish neoclassical buildings and concrete buildings built in the 1950's. Destroyed several times, notably in August 1898 and during the Second World War, Heraklion had the worst difficulties in managing its development. During the military junta of Venetian buildings, yet in a perfect condition, were razed . The notion of architectural heritage is only very recently entered into the mentality of the local people.

The villa can be inhabited without any restoration but, because of its location (in the center of a lively beach resort, on the old national road from Rethymno to Heraklio, on the beach), this property is ideal for development. Properties with these features and of this size are simply not available in the area any more, which also makes it an excellent investment.
